Report a problem
Email support@taqwa.world, or open an issue on GitHub if you have an account there. Three things make a report easy to act on:
- the app version, shown under Settings › About Taqwa;
- your phone model and its Android or iOS version;
- what you were doing just before, and a screenshot if it helps.
If the app closed unexpectedly, it keeps a short technical report on your phone and offers to email it the next time it opens. Nothing is sent unless you choose to send it.
A prayer time looks wrong
Taqwa follows the timetable used where you are: Settings › Prayer times › Timetable › Automatic. Where it holds that timetable, it reproduces it and checks it day by day, and on the days checked no prayer starts before the published time. Where mosques follow different timetables, it shows each prayer once they have all begun it, and where no timetable is known, it calculates on the safe side. The (i) after the date on the Prayer screen says whose times you are seeing, and About these times says how they were checked.
If your mosque follows a different timetable, choose it in Settings › Prayer times › Timetable. Match my mosque looks for it from two times on the mosque’s board: when Fajr and Isha begin, not the jamāʿah. The classic calculation methods are under Other methods. Settings › Prayer times also sets Asr to Standard or Hanafi and adjusts any prayer by a few minutes; if a timetable or an adjustment would show a prayer earlier, Taqwa asks you to confirm it first.
If every prayer time is an hour early or late, your region may have changed its clocks, or started keeping one time all year, and your phone may not have caught up; a clock set by hand can put the times an hour off too. Where Taqwa knows of the change, the Prayer screen says “Prayer times may be an hour off”; tap it to see what changed and when. Install the latest system update, if there is one, and keep date and time on automatic: alerts are right only when the clock is automatic.
The Hijri date is an arithmetic calendar and can differ by a day from Umm al-Qura or from local moonsighting; Settings › Prayer times has a one-day adjustment for it.
No sound from a notification
Prayer notifications, and the previews under Settings › Notifications, play at your phone’s notification volume, so they make no sound while the phone is on silent, on vibrate or in Do Not Disturb. On Android the sound picker says so when that is the case. Turn the ringer on or raise the notification volume, then try the preview again.
A prayer notification plays the first 30 seconds of its sound, the longest an iPhone lets a notification play, and Taqwa keeps Android the same. The play button in Settings › Notifications › Adhan plays the complete adhan in each voice.
The adhan came late, or not at all
On Android, a notification can ring at the exact minute only while “Alarms & reminders” is allowed for Taqwa; without it, Android can hold it back by up to an hour. The Prayer screen shows EXACT ALARMS OFF when that happens, and Settings › Notifications has an Allow exact alarms button.
Some phones also put apps to sleep in the background to save battery. Set Taqwa’s battery use to Unrestricted (on most phones, Settings › Apps › Taqwa › Battery), and on a Samsung phone keep Taqwa off the sleeping-apps lists under Settings › Battery › Background usage limits. dontkillmyapp.com shows the steps for each phone maker.
On iPhone, iOS lets an app queue only a limited number of notifications, so each time Taqwa runs it schedules the days ahead: twelve days of prayers, or as few as five with Remind me before and Tahajjud both on. Opening the app every few days keeps them coming.
The compass says it needs calibrating
Magnets are the usual cause: a case or wallet with a magnet in it, MagSafe accessories included, a magnetic car mount, or a laptop or metal table close by. Move the phone away from them, take it out of its case if the case holds a magnet, and move it in a figure of eight a few times.
If the Qibla screen says Magnetic interference, something nearby is stronger than the Earth’s field: moving away helps, and a figure of eight does not. If it says Compass unavailable, the phone could not settle its compass where it is; the bearing and distance shown are still exact, and work with any other compass.
Recitation downloads
Recitations download over Wi-Fi by default; Settings › Quran › Recitation has a switch for mobile data and shows what is stored, per reciter, with a way to delete it. A download that stops partway resumes where it left off.
Your data
Everything Taqwa knows lives on your phone: your location or chosen city, your settings, bookmarks, adhkar and tasbeeh counts, and downloaded recitations. There is no account and no server, so there is nothing to request or delete on our side. Uninstalling the app removes all of it. The privacy policy says this in full.
